My cousin Melissa is visiting until tomorrow afternoon, so we spent most of the afternoon by the pool soaking up the sun. It is SUCH a beautiful day!
We are heading downtown to shop for some last minute items for me to take to camp:
hiking shoes and extra socks and underwear.
Any other useful item ideas that will keep me cool this summer in 100 degree weather? Someone had suggested I get a CamelBak (water reservoir in a small backpack), which my sister is providing me.
Or does anyone know how to keep cockroaches and tarantulas away? I am extremely worried about the spiders...
Countdown to road trip: 2 days!
I CAN'T BELIEVE I LEAVE ON TUESDAY!!!!

Melissa is currently taking a teabag/vinegar bath to help with her sunburn, lol.
ReplyDeleteIf you're going to be sleeping in a tent or the such, I'm sure that some mosquito netting around where you sleep would be able to keep away the spiders and other creepy crawlies. As for staying cool, best of luck. Camelbaks are a great way to be able to carry around a decent quantity of water and have it readily available. I'd recommend getting a few extra bite valves and an extra reservoir for it before you leave in case they were to get dirty/broken. Having spent some time in the heat, everything you do to try and stay cool is only a temporary measure. Best advice I can give you is to stay in the shade whenever possible, drink a lot of water, and just learn to live with the heat. It sucks for the first week or so, but eventually your body will adapt. Outside of that, try to wear fairly thin, loose fitting clothing if possible and take a portable battery operated fan to help you sleep at night (sleeping in the heat is probably the hardest thing). Best of luck, have a great summer.
